Organi: Organic Firming Serum

Serum is one of my must have and must wear of daily skin care products. According to dermatologists, only a serum can penetrate the many layers of the skin. Other skin care products such as day cream and night cream usually have larger molecules than a serum, therefore might only work on the surface of the skin, whereas a serum with its tiny molecules can add moisture and other ingredients much deeper into the skin (refer to:  Asha Chowdary in her article for The Times of India, 8 November 2012). Considering my age, the best for me is anti-aging serum. I usually buy skin care in a set of moisturizer and serum under the same brand.

In conjunction with Organi Day Cream (link), and Organi Night Cream, I used Organi Firming Serum. Organi has two types of serum: Organi Firming Serum and Organi Deep Wrinkle Remover. The beauty advisor at first didn’t suggest me to use serum considering my age. But I had different opinion of the importance of using serum. After 2 weeks using them all, lemme share my experience:

Benefit: anti-aging serum powered by Manuka Honey

Ingredients:

Detail:
This serum comes in a beautiful green pumped bottle. I used this serum together with the day and night cream from the same brand. The texture of this serum is light – it’s kind of a light lotion. It’s not greasy, not sticky, not oily and easy to apply. I did expect a lot from this serum – it’s so pricey. I have to regret of having such high expectations. Just like the day cream, it helped hydrating my skin – it gave one layer of moisturizer to my skin. But, this serum didn’t perform something wonderful. It doesn't really do anything for my skin at all. The "anti-aging" qualities are mediocre and don't last. It certainly does nothing against dryness, redness, dark spots or my acne scar.

Drawback:
The normal price of this serum is AUD 240 – insane!
The pump container is very effective to keep the freshness and hygiene of the serum, but it was so difficult to reach the product at the bottom of the container.

Again, I learnt beautiful container isn’t a guarantee of the quality inside.

Organi: Organic Day Cream

Another story of Organi…

When I was in Australia, I bought a set of Organi products. At first I would like to buy Organi Day Cream, Organi Night Cream and the serum. The beauty advisor offered me to buy a complete set of Organi with a very good price. It comes in a beautiful green box, consists of day cream, night cream, honey peel, firming serum and eye serum – all together costs me AUD 500 something (Sorry I forgot the exact price for I have thrown away the receipt and my credit card bill). Then, I also received some bonuses: Organi Cleanser & Toner, Seaweed Soap and a magical nail buffer!

After using Organi set for two months, I would like to share my experience below:

Benefit: hydrating day cream powered by nature

Ingredients:

Detail:
I used this day cream in conjunction with all other Organi products in the set: night cream, and firming serum. Since this cream doesn’t contain sunscreen, after applying this day cream I put on Belif BB Cream with SPF 20. The texture of this light orange cream is light, which makes it sinks quickly. It didn’t make my skin looks oily and it didn’t leave any greasy feeling. It has a light scent – I’m not so sure what kind of scent it is, but it smells like banana? Anyway, this day cream made my skin hydrates. That’s all. It didn’t make my skin looks better – I didn’t see any difference of using and not using this cream.

After several days using this product, my skin started to break out. At first I thought it must be the effect of PMS. But hey, after my period, I had more break out. Then I decided to stop using this product. Considering that this product is very pricey, I didn’t throw it away, instead I used it as my body lotion. I finished the whole jar in less than a week!

Drawback:
In addition to my concerns about this brand in my previous post on Organi Honey Peel, it seems my skin didn’t agree with this cream.

I learned two things from my experience using Organi products:

  • Using natural and organic products doesn’t guarantee that I will not experience break out or other side effects
  • Price is not a guarantee of excellent performance.

That’s all…

My Mom's Beauty Tips

I’m not living in the same city with my mother. I call her regularly and usually I will return to my home city during Chinese New Year.  I have my passion in skin care products because of her. She is the one who taught me how to use different types of skin care; she introduced me to different brands of skin care when I was teenager. I still remember we get used to have mom and daughter beauty session once a week when we did our facial treatment at home  while we talked about a lot of things and listened to the old songs (my mom’s favorites!).

Because my mom practices a routine beauty regime – cleansing, toning, moisturizing and once a week peeling and masking, she looks much younger than her age. She’s now 69 years old – many people think she’s about 50 years old.

Last Sunday (12 May 2013), internationally, we celebrated Mother’s Day – uhm actually in Indonesia, we celebrate Mother’s Day (it is called Hari Ibu) on 22 December every year. So, I would like to share my mom’s beauty tips.
  • Always use peeling/ scrub once a week for deep cleansing of our pores and  – I do this since I was teenager, and sometimes I also use pore pack
  • Always use face mask once to twice a week, depends on mask types. Face mask provides deep nourishment to our skin. I love the instant result after applying face mask. Try it yourself!
  • Always apply sunscreen when you go out and have activities under the sun – hmm I often skipped this tip, I didn’t like the stickiness of sunscreen. I just started using sunscreen regularly when I studied in Australia. The effect? I have dark spots on my face L
  • Apply day cream and night cream throughout face and neck – don’t forget neck area. It  deserves your expensive face cream to maintain its firmness and elasticity
  • Use natural products whenever possible – in the past my mother used products of Mustika Ratu and Martha Tilaar which were considered traditional and natural. Now, I’m a natural and organic skin care fanatic!
  • When you turn 30 years old, you have to use eye cream routinely. I was not aware the importance of using eye cream until I had a friend on my age complaining about her crow’s feet, eye bag and puffiness.
That’s all my mom’s beauty tips. There’s nothing new…but I learn a lot from her beauty regime and I want to look younger than my age – just like my mom..
Thank you, mom..
Happy Mother’s Day.. I love you
