Summer time = Sunscreen time

Time goes very fast. It’s already in the end of April. Have you planned your summer holiday? Summer time is the warmest season of the year and oh, perfect time of the year to explore beaches and exotic places J  Suddenly I picture Bali in my mind.. I have done with vacation booking for 10 days in Bali! Ah, I cannot wait for summer fun! Anyway, wherever you go for this summer holiday, don’t forget to bring sunscreen with you.
Why sunscreen is important? Well, I started to learn the importance of sunscreen and applied it on a daily basis when I took my degree in Australia. Skin cancer is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed in Australia and not to mention that Australia is the world’s highest skin cancer incidence rate ever! That’s why when I arrived in Australia in January – right in the middle or summer time, I noticed many campaign on skin cancer awareness, which included the strong recommendation on applying SPF30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen every two hours! It is mentioned that sunscreen helps to some extent prevent aging spot, skin burnt and skin cancer.
In fact, choosing sunscreen is not always easy. There are many choices of sunscreen in the market. Here are the tips from the expert:
  • ·  Choose sunscreen that provides UVA and UVB protection. Previously sunscreen most of the time only provided UVB protection. UVB penetrates only the outer skin layer that usually causes skin burnt. Meanwhile UVA can penetrate deeper into the skin where it can cause the damage of DNA that leads to skin cancer.

  • ·   Choose sunscreen with the right SPF (Sun Protection Factor). SPF is reliable measurement of protection against UVB radiation. We commonly translate the number of SPF as the length of time of sun exposure allowed. For instance, sunscreen with SPF 30 means a protection of 30 times longer before someone gets skin burnt. It is recommended to apply at least SPF 15 for daily routine activities and SPF 30 for outdoor activities. Don’t forget to re-apply it every two hours!
How to use the sunscreen? Well, sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before outdoor activities and don’t forget to reapply it every two hours or every time after swimming, toweling or even sweating. If we want to use moisturizer, it is advised to apply moisturizer before sunscreen. For long hour’s outdoor activities, water resistance sunscreen is ideal but it is still need to reapply every two hours. The water resistant sunscreen is not good for daily basis application as it is sticky and not goes well with make up J

Lets prepare for summer fun, summer holidays and don’t forget the sunscreen!
