Bio Oil: Launching and First Impression

On Saturday October 4^th, 2014, I attended the launching of Bio Oil in Indonesia – thanks for inviting me to this event! Bio Oil is produced by Union Swiss, a multinational skincare company, headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa. This phenomenal product is currently available in 17 countries around the world, including Indonesia. This product is brought to Indonesia by PT Radiant Sentral Nutrindo. The launching event took place in XXI Lounge, Plaza Senayan and attended by media and beauty bloggers.

Dr. Novita Sari Mujahid, SpAl from FKUI explained about stretch mark and different types of scar and how to reduce them.

The session continued by the product manager of Bio Oil, Ibu Nurhayatini, explained briefly about Bio Oil. It is a dry oil with chamomile oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil calendula oil, vitamin A, vitamin E and Purcellin Oil as its active ingredients. Bio Oil is a special oil to treat scar and stretch mark as well as to hydrate skin.

Then finally…yeayyy… we got opportunity to try the product!!!

First impression: while it is “oil”, it is easily absorbed and the scent is not overpowering for me. It left my skin feels so supple and soft. I haven’t tried it on my acne scar or stretch marks, so I could not comment on its effectiveness reducing those two skin problems.

Finally it’s June again… we are all in summer holidays mood…

While you might now are busy with holidays preparation, don’t forget to take sunscreen with you this summer vacation. Frequently asked question related to sunscreen is about SPF. How much SPF do we need? Is it the higher the better? Then, what kind of active ingredients that are safe and effective for sunscreen?

So, here is some guideline for choosing sunscreen:

It is unnecessary to use SPF100 – I saw some available in the market! According to SkinCancer Org, SPF 15 filters out approximately 93 percent of all incoming UVB rays. SPF 30 keeps out 97 percent and SPF 50 keeps out 98 percent. Even though FDA finally failed to ban sunscreen products with SPF higher than 50, please remember that SPF 100 is useless. Such products with SPF100 may have greater risk to health due its chemical ingredients. All sunscreen products need to reapply after 2 hours anyway!

Choose sunscreen with low toxicity ingredients. Referring to EWG Guide for Safe Sunscreen, here are the low toxicity ingredients of sunscreen: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone. And don’t ever buy sunscreen with insect repellent – it’s super toxic for combining sunscreens and repellents leads to increased skin absorption of the repellent ingredients.

 Do not buy sunscreen contains retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A). While retinyl palmitate is a good ingredient for anti-aging, on sun-exposed skin, retinyl palmitate may speed development of skin tumors and lesions.

MooGoo: 100% Organic Rosehip Oil

The skin secret of supermodel is revealed: rosehip oil! David Gandy and Miranda Kerr are using rosehip oil to make their skin hydrated and glowing, according to Yahoo UK news. I use this rosehip oil as face serum, so I apply it after I cleanse my face and before applying moisturizer. I use it in conjunction with MooGoo MSM Soothing Cream, twice a day. This orange reddish oil smells light – it doesn’t have strong disturbing scent as I thought. One pump is enough to apply to entire face and neck. It absorbs quickly and it doesn’t greasy. 

The results? Oh, I really love this product. I love the way it clears up my skin. It lightens my skin and reduces acne spots and acne scars as well as fine lines around my eyes. I also use it as eye serum and it works wonderfully soften skin around my eyes. It is super effective in moisturizing my skin! I love to see how nice my skin after using rosehip oil!

Skincare Products My Skin Refused to Work with – summer edition

Tulisan ini sebenernya udah cukup lama, tapi baru sekarang di-publish. Maaf dear sweeties…

Sebelum liburan ke Bali selama 10 hari pas libur Lebaran kemarin, saya hunting beberapa produk skincare termasuk yang ada SPF-nya. Tapi sadly, ternyata engga semua produk skincare yang kayaknya sudah saya pilih dengan hati-hati itu work well with my skin.  Nah kali ini saya mau share 5 products that my skin refused to work with alias engga cocok di kulit saya yang dry, acne prone dan lumayan sensitive (sudah tau lumayan sensitive tapi masih ga kapok gonta ganti merek skincare hehehe):

1. The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso BB Serum SPF 25++

I thought BB cream plus sunscreen would be perfect for my holidays in Bali – multi fungsi gitu ceritanya. Jadi, setiap pagi ketika liburan di Bali, setelah membersihkan wajah dengan Mukti Cleansing Lotion dan mengaplikasikan Trilogy Rosehip Oil Antioxidant Plus dan MooGoo Lightening Cream, saya pake The Body Shop BB serum ini di seluruh area wajah dan leher. Di awal pemakaian sih masih biasa aja, tapi setelah hari ke 3, saya mulai notice kalo di wajah muncul jerawat kecil-kecil di bagian dagu. Saya pikir, ah ini karena wajah kotor selama liburan aja dan engga bawa MooGoo Cleansing Oil ataupun face scrub sebagai deep cleansing pores creams gitu. Tapi lama-lama wajah dan leher kog bruntusan ya..dan mulai nongol jerawat gedhe di bawah mata kanan. Setelah 2 minggu, saya stop pake TBS BB serum untuk ngecek apakah memang kulit saya menolak produk ini. Bener juga, setelah menghentikan pemakaian TBS BB serum, bruntusan di sseluruh wajah dan leher hilang dalam waktu 2 hari, tinggal mengatasi jerawat bandelnya.

Masih ada sisa produk di botol TBS BB serum dan produknya belum kadaluarsa. Produk ini saya donasikan ke teman yang biasa pake produk TBS – eman juga membuang TBS BB serum seharga Rp 229,000 karena mungkin ada orang lain yang cocok pake produk ini…

Update: teman saya juga engga cocok pake produk ini dengan indikasi yang sama alias bruntusan di wajah dan leher.

2. MooGoo SPF 15 Lip Balm

I always love MooGoo. Itu sebabnya saya semangat banget beli SPF 15 Lip Balm-nya untuk bekal berpanas ria selama liburan. Saya sudah pernah cobain MooGoo lip balm, the Edible Strawberry one and I really love it, jadi ekspektasi saya terhadap lip balm SPF 15 ini kira-kira bakal sama deh kualitas dan performance nya dengan yang strawberry. Lip balm dengan SF 15 ini teksturnya agak sticky, bikin bibir berasa tebel dengan sweet scent yang mirip dengan aroma permen karet. Tapi ternyata ekspektasi saya meleset. My lips doesn’t agree to work with this lip balm – jadilah bibir kering dan mengelupas.. Sedih juga :(

Produk ini rasanya ga bisa dihibahkan... I don't know what to do with it... Mungkin i have to throw it away sigh...

3. Acca Kappa Eye Contour Cream

Nah ini dia merek skincare made in Italy pertama yang saya coba setelah saya tertarik masuk Acca Kappa store yang terlihat menarik di Kuningan City. It’s a premium product dengan design kemasan yang simple yet exclusive. Kebetulan karena MooGoo Super Vitamin C Eye Serum mau habis, saya cobain aja beli eye cream dari merek ini. Ketika pertama kali pake, saya happy dengan tekstur creamnya yang light, engga lengket, engga greasy dan gampang diaplikasikan di area sekitar mata. Namun dengan cepat, dalam jangka waktu 3 hari saya noticed kalo produk ini tidak diterima oleh kulit saya. Kulit di area sekitar mata jadi kering sampe gatal dan ketika produk ini diaplikasikan, rasanya perih. So I stopped using this product immediatel.

Sungguh sayang produk eye cream 500k Rupiah engga cocok dipakenya.. Akhirnya produk ini end up jadi krim tangan yang saya pake tiap kali kelar cuci tangan biar tangan kagak kering… 

4. Mukti Cleansing Lotion

Mukti is one of truly organic skincare products made in Australia. Saya membeli produk ini lewat teman kantor yang lagi mengunjungi Singapore – I didn’t see it when I was in Aussie last year. Saya masih berasumsi all organic skincare products should be suitable for anyone. My assumption was wrong. This milky white cleanser packed in a pump bottle has a thick texture. Ketika awal pake cleanser ini, as always, there was no serious effect. Selama 10 hari liburan di Bali, saya mengandalkan produk ini to clean up my face and neck. After a week menggunakan produk ini daily – tanpa menggunakan any deep cleansing pores product macam MooGoo Oil Cleansing Method atau scrub dan sebagainya, saya merasa kulit wajah saya tebal dan seakan ada tumpukan kotoran (incl. minyak, debu dan sisa pelembab) di kulit wajah. Komedo di sekitar hidung tampak obvious sekali dan kondisi wajah diperparah dengan jerawat kecil-kecil yang muncul akibat engga cocok dengan The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso BB Serum SPF 25++.

As soon as pulang ke Jakarta, saya langsung menghentikan produk cleanser organic yang harganya cukup mahal (mana pake belinya susah pisan) dan back to MooGoo Oil Cleansing Method dan MooGoo Milk Wash.

Where did I throw this product away? Fortunately my hubby bisa pake produk ini dan akhirnya end up hubby yang menghabiskan this Mukti Cleansing Lotion.

 

5. Acca Kappa Peach Natural Lip Balm

 

 

Lip balm merek Acca Kappa ini desain kemasannya menarik dan ditambah informasi bahwa produk ini mengandung apricot kernel oil, saya confident membeli dan memakainya despite I have sensitive lips. Saya menggunakannya tiap malam pada saat liburan di Bali. Sebenarnya saya suka dengan teksturnya yang light dengan aroma buah yang memikat. Sayangnya, again….bibir saya bukannya jadi hydrated tapi jadi kering. Setelah 2 minggu pemakaian, akhirnya saya hentikan penggunaan lip balm ini dan back to MooGoo Strawberry Tinted Lip Balm.
